About the Spode company
The Spode company is well known for their English pottery and their traditional ranges of quality dinner ware. The origins of the company go back to the late 18th century when the advanced pottery techniques of the time, which were developed by Spode, allowed them to achieve great success. This followed a few years later with designs such as the Blue Italian range of bone china, this design is still produced today along with the Woodland range and the relatively young Christmas Tree collection which was first launched in 1938.
After over 200 years of trading the Spode company was rescued by the Portmeirion Group in 2009, who are also the owners of Pimpernel and Royal Worcester. This gave Spode the financial backing and ability to continue producing their pottery, a lot of which is still made at the group’s factory in Stoke-on-Trent, England.
